Reiki is a Japanese method of stress reduction and relaxation, that supports balance and spiritual growth:
- enabling relaxation & stress relief if you are generally in good health
- supporting recuperation & peace of mind if you are sick, suffering the effects of trauma or living with a chronic health condition or life limiting illness
- providing respite and a soothing experience if you are terminally ill
- aiding mental, physical & emotional preparations if you are awaiting or recovering from surgery
It can be administered as a treatment by a practitioner or learned as a tool for self-care from a Reiki teacher (the Eastern word for teacher is Master).
How does Reiki work?
Most of us live unaware that the human organism (body, brain and nervous system) is an energy system as well as a biological one. When your energy system is strong you are likely to feel calm and able to respond to the stresses of life. When your energy system is depleted you are more likely to feel stressed and anxious, fall sick and experience fluctuation in your mood and sense of self.
In response to life stresses, the overall balance of your system can be interrupted. This can be expressed in your thoughts, feelings, emotions and your sense of connection to yourself, to other people and to the world around you. A disruption in any of these areas can have a knock on effect on your whole being.
This is where Reiki can help.
What happens in a Reiki session?
Using very gentle touch that does not require the removal of clothes, Reiki restores balance to your emotions, thoughts, your body and spirit.
My hands are placed statically on the surface of your body in a series of positions that relate to the functioning of your organs and the systems of your body. The part of your nervous responsible for maintaining balance (homeostasis), moves into self-healing mode and you experience profound relaxation. Treatments lasts for one hour.
Reiki is an effective way of caring for yourself and those you love, by inviting deep relaxation and connection. You can learn to give Reiki to yourself (self-practice) and to your friends, family and pets.
You can also train as a Reiki Practitioner, in order to offer Reiki on a professional basis or to integrate it within your current therapeutic practice. If you are interested in learning Reiki please click here.

‘Reiki reconnects you. Within this re-connection, your mind slows, your senses sharpen and every aspect of your well being is supported. Feeling connected to something much bigger than yourself assists peace. Everything you have been holding onto can fall away, because you know you are okay. People come to Reiki because they are stressed, in recovery, seeking relaxation or facing their last months of life. What is common for each person is an enhanced inner peace, through connection’.
