Counselling and Gestalt Therapy
in Newcastle upon Tyne and Durham

What is counselling?

Counselling is a confidential relationship of trust and genuine care, in which you are sensitively supported to explore whatever aspect of yourself or your experience is causing you distress.

It is appropriate if you:

  • wish to address hurts from the past in order to move on
  • are facing a difficult life-situation in the present
  • are anticipating the future and need to make important choices
  • think there must be more to life

Counselling is a relationship like no other in your life. It is your space.

Research shows that when you are accepted for who you are by an empathic therapist who is able to see your potential and genuinely care  for you, it is then that you will be most inclined to experience the sense of trust and safety necessary to express yourself, at your own pace.

By allowing you time and space to safely feel your feelings and make sense of your thoughts and behaviours Counselling helps you find your own answers.

By enabling you to connect with the resources inside you through which you can experience feelings like hope and your power to do things like speak up / assert yourself, Counselling brings lasting change.

On an open-ended basis or for an agree time period I provide counselling in Newcastle and Durham to adults and young people.

What Counselling approach do I use?

As a Humanistic Counsellor I see your potential. I am committed to the power of acceptance and genuineness in a therapeutic relationship, as a means of supporting you to understand yourself and your unique value as a human being. This can support awareness of your situation and the options available you, enabling you to lead a more fulfilling life.

Where appropriate to your need I integrate the creative approach, Gestalt Therapy. This awareness-based approach enables you to experience your full capacity for vitality, by becoming aware, through direct experience in the here-and-now of the resources of your mind, body and the deeper person that you are.

I have also undertaken specialist training in Mindfulness practices in the Far-East for two years and studied extensively the role of breathing in recovering and optimising well being (managing stress).  These influences can assist the process of therapy wherever this meets the person centred needs and wishes of clients.

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and abide by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice (membership number: 676339).
